Biological Sciences is committed to rigorous, ethical scholarly publishing and the free availability of research. Article processing charges (APCs) help support editorial administration, coordination of peer review, copyediting, typesetting, DOI registration, full-text production, and online hosting.
Our priority is the quality and contribution of the research. Fee reductions and full waivers help eligible authors publish when financial resources are limited.
No submission or peer-review fees.
APCs are payable only after acceptance.
100% APC waivers are available for qualifying manuscripts.
APC Structure
The following charges apply per accepted article. All amounts are in US dollars (USD).

LIC: Low-income countries · LMIC: Lower-middle-income countries · UMIC: Upper-middle-income countries. Standard charges apply to high-income countries.
Country discounts are based on 75% for LIC, 50% for LMIC, and 25% for UMIC authors. For the $150 article category, the LIC and UMIC payable amounts are rounded up to the nearest $5, as shown above.
Waiver Policy
We recognize that access to publication funding varies between authors and institutions. Country-based discounts and full-waiver support are available to help reduce financial barriers.
Country-based eligibility follows the World Bank Country Classification . Please provide the corresponding author’s primary institutional affiliation and country when submitting a request or confirming eligibility.
Authors who do not qualify for a country-based discount may still request a full waiver under the criteria below. The applicable fee or waiver will be confirmed in writing before payment is requested.
Editorial independence: An author’s ability to pay or request for a waiver does not influence peer review or acceptance. All manuscripts are assessed against the same scientific and ethical standards.
100% APC Waivers
Full APC waivers are available for qualifying high-quality manuscripts and authors facing financial hardship. Authors from any country may request consideration.
Quality-based publication support
Selected manuscripts may receive a 100% waiver based on methodological rigor, a meaningful contribution to the field, transparent reporting, and relevance to the journal’s scope. This support recognizes qualifying contributions; it is not automatic for every accepted manuscript.
Financial-support waivers
Full waivers may also be granted to authors who lack sufficient institutional or grant funding, including early-career researchers and researchers facing substantial financial hardship.
An approved full waiver reduces the APC to zero. It does not guarantee acceptance, faster review, or preferential editorial treatment.
How to request a waiver
Please send your request preferably at submission to info@irrespub.com , including:
- Manuscript title and submission ID, if available.
- Corresponding author’s name, institution, and country.
- A brief explanation of the request, including funding availability or the basis for quality-based support.
The publishing office will coordinate the request and communicate the outcome in writing. Waiver decisions do not change the journal’s acceptance criteria.
Payment Process
- Editorial decision: The manuscript completes editorial assessment and peer review. No APC payment is required before acceptance.
- Invoice or waiver confirmation: Following acceptance, the corresponding author receives an invoice reflecting any approved discount, or written confirmation of a full waiver.
- Payment: Where a fee is payable, follow the invoice instructions. Credit card, debit card, and PayPal payments are available through our online payment system .
- Publication: Publication proceeds after payment is received or a full waiver is confirmed, and the final production requirements are completed.
Please do not make a payment before receiving an invoice and payment instructions from the journal.
